Lilly is now 13 months old, almost 14 months. Her vocabulary is taking off. She already knew how to say "grandpa," "kitty," "mommy," "daddy," and, of course, "HI!," but she surprised me the other day when she started to say "Nanny." I don't think she's referring to me, but it's funny to hear her saying it. It's definitely the word of the week. When I put her in bed at night, she'll sit and say "nanny, nanny, nanny, NANNY!" for a while before falling asleep. She also likes to whisper. If I whisper "hi," she'll whisper it back.
She is also starting to pick up a lot of sign language. If she's hungry, she runs over and starts doing the sign for "eat." Sometimes I hate that she knows that sign, because it feels like she's always doing it, since she knows it will get her food. She can blow kisses, which is more like slapping her mouth with her hand. If I tell her I love her, she'll blow me kisses. Another surprising ability of hers is that she now knows how to do the "roll it" and "pat it" and "mark it with a B" signs for Patty Cake. I can't get her to do it on camera, but I'm tryin'!
She adores the cats. If she sees one of them, she instantly says "hi, kitty!". It sounds more like "hi, tsi-tsi". She mimics how I talk to the kitties in baby talk, and will make her voice high-pitched. She loves to try and poke them, hug them, and pet them, and if she's lucky enough to get them cornered, she has actually tried to sit on and climb June. Lilly now knows the difference between what are her toys and what are the kitty toys. If she finds one of the toy mice, she starts saying "kitty, kitty," and will walk over to Juniper to try and give it to her. I'm trying my darndest to get her to throw the toys for the cats. The other day, after noticing that she tries to share toys and food with them, I wanted to see if I could get her to give them treats. I knew it would happen, but she ate the kitty treat, even after telling her no. She ran away from me at full baby sprint and stuck it in her mouth. She's just as naughty as the kitties.
I think I speak for both Ryan and myself when I say that one of our favorite things is watching her dance. She's always danced in some form or another, but we taught her how to do the full-body dance, and it promises a laugh every time. Her favorite song to dance to is the theme song for the TV show "Dinosaurs." She swings her arms, stomps her feet, and shakes her booty. It's the best. Along with dancing, she loves to sing. Her favorite song to sing to is the theme song for the show "Dragon Tales." I sing it with her, and if I'm not paying attention and forget to sing, she walks up to me and makes me sing with her.
Everything remotely rectangular-shaped is instantly a phone to Lilly. She holds it up to her ear and says "hi." Heaven forbid I'm actually using a real phone, she will yell "HI, HI, HI," making it hard to hear the person on the other line. She likes talking on the phone, but I have to put it on speaker for her. I usually have to warn the other person that she's going to hang up on them, because she wants to push the buttons more than she wants to talk to them.
We're not very consistent with it, but we've been brushing Lilly's teeth for the past few weeks. For the first little bit, we didn't put anything on the toothbrush, and she hated it. Then I bought some strawberry banana flavored baby toothpaste, and now she loves teeth brushing time. She even laughs through it all. Gotta keep those cute baby teeth pearly white!
And lastly, she's making me think she's a bit of a tom-boy. When I babysit, she spends all her time playing with Ben's trains and trucks. She loves that they have wheels and can roll around. She'll bring them to me and want me to make the "choo, choo" or "vroom" sound for them. I about died when I was watching her play and she started to make the engine noises for the cars. She's been doing the same with her finger puppet animals, too. She'll bring them to me, one at a time, and want me to do their noise. I'm usually at a loss for what to do for the hippo, panda, and bunny, though.
Even though she can't talk or communicate all that well with me, I feel like she can understand everything I say to her. I'll tell her to go sit in her chair, or find me her shoes, and she does it. Lilly is such a smart little girl, and she learns so quickly. I'm learning to view the world through her eyes, and every new experience or milestone is so fun for us to share together. I love my little Lilly so much!!!
