Baby Just Say YES

     In July of 2010 I moved back out to Omaha to resume nursing school at Creighton University. Leaving Ryan was one of the hardest things to deal with, but we tried. We Skyped every night, stayed on chat all day, and were constantly texting, but no amount of "digital" Ryan could compare to the real thing. After about a month, I started to crack. School had only just started and prior to that, I'd spent three weeks alone in an apartment. Everything on the planet was going wrong. One day it was my car not starting, the other it was my internet not working. After a while, the smallest thing would set me on a downward spiral. Ryan could see that I needed a break.

     Labor Day weekend was the perfect opportunity. We'd have 4 days together, AND the Idaho State Fair was that weekend. We were so excited to see each other after 1 LONG month apart. Suffice it to say, I didn't sleep the night before I was to fly home, and every second of the next day didn't pass by quickly enough. I got off my plane and nearly ran to the baggage claim. The butterflies in my stomach reminded me of the anxiety of meeting Ryan for the first time. I was so nervous to see him. I think mainly I was just beyond excited to hug & kiss him again, smell him, and feel his warm embrace. I started down the escalator and could see Ryan before he could see me. When our eyes met, we both ran to each other and hugged. It was seriously THE best feeling in the world. I think I was on the verge of hyperventilating for a second. Once we were finally able to force ourselves out of the hug, Ryan handed me a bouquet of roses. I took them, said thank you, and began to pull him towards the baggage claim. He grabbed my arm and pulled me back. Just then I noticed as he reached into his pocket and grabbed something. He then knelt down and said, "before anything else goes wrong, will you marry me?". By this he meant "before we find out that your luck has caused your luggage to be lost or you trip on the way to the carousel, will you marry me?". He was worried that if anything else happened before he could propose, I'd have a melt down. Of course I said yes and did the typical freak-out. My favorite part was the applause that burst out when people realized what they had just witnessed.


     We gathered my things and headed home. I was staying at his parent's house with him and his family, so when we got home, I found that he'd stocked my room full of all of my favorite comfort food; Pepsi, Oreos, M&Ms, and a bunch of other chocolate. Once I was settled, he took me to my favorite restaurant; BAJIO! I don't know why I love their pork salads so much, but I do, and Nebraska doesn't have anything remotely similar to it. As we attempted to eat, I couldn't stop smiling, or looking at my gorgeous ring. I felt on top of the world. I can honestly say that was one of the best days of my life.
