Calm down, I'm still alive! I realized this morning that it's been a week since I last blogged. This last week FLEW by, and before I knew it, I had a handful of posts piled up. So, I shall run down our last week, one day at a time, starting with Wednesday.
Wednesday was a fairly normal babysitting day. Around noon, I had both Ben and Lilly asleep, so I decided to start cleaning up the living room. I noticed a quarter and a dime next to the TV stand, and decided not to move them because I heard Adele playing with them earlier, and figured she would get mad if I moved them. Those were literally the only two things I allowed to stay on the floor. Once I finished cleaning, I put on a movie for Adele. We had been quietly watching, me on the couch and Adele laying on the floor, for about 20 minutes, when Adele suddenly jumped up in a panic. She was grabbing at her throat like she was choking. Nurse Nanny mode kicked in and I asked her "are you choking?" She nodded. I asked her if she could breathe, and she nodded. Then I asked her what she swallowed. At this point, she was scared and thought she was going to get into trouble, so she lied and very quietly said "I don't know." I assured her that I wasn't going to get mad, but that I needed to know what she ate, so that I could fix it. It then occurred to me that the only thing on the floor was the coins I had noticed earlier. I asked her if she swallowed one of the coins. When she said yes, I asked her if it was the big one or the little one. She told me it was the quarter. At that point, I started to panic because it was quite large for her to swallow, and she was acting like it was lodged in her throat. I immediately called her mom, who, ironically, was at a doctor's office. She asked the doctor what to do, and he said that as long as she was breathing and talking normally, not to worry. I asked Adele for the other coin, so she wouldn't put that one in her mouth too, and she handed me the quarter. So, turns out she ate a dime, not a quarter. I was instructed not to allow her to eat or drink for a bit. Adele didn't like that, since she kept asking me for mac & cheese. I'm happy to report that she's still alive...but the dime has yet to be found. :P That was Wednesday, now on to Thursday.
Thursday was a very memorable day for us. It was Ryan's LAST day of classes. That means he has officially FINISHED HIS MASTER'S DEGREE!! I remember when we first started dating, one of the topics we discussed was how he was just starting graduate school. So, he has been gone several nights a week, literally since the day I met him. I haven't loved it, but we made it work. I'm so proud of this guy for sticking with it and working so hard. It'll be nice to have him home every night of the week from now on.
Onto Friday. Emma, the woman I babysit for, is an old coworker of Ryan's, from when he worked at ADP. She had suggested on Wednesday that they go out to lunch with some of the old coworkers, since they all missed seeing him. Around noon, Ryan ran over to pick Lilly, Ben, and I up to meet up with the gang. We met everyone at JCW's. Emma, her husband Ryan, Adele, and several coworkers were all there. I picked at a salad, while everyone else enjoyed greasy burgers, fries, FRY SAUCE (or pink sauce, as Adele called it), and soda. Lilly ate a bunch of crackers, a couple of daddy's fries, an onion, and a cucumber from my salad. She loved it all. I was secretly hoping Ryan would get fry sauce all over her face, so I could kiss it off....Once done with work, we hurried home as quickly as we could, because we were heading up to Syracuse to spend the weekend with Ryan's parents. I swear, we packed our entire house! We didn't get up to their house until about 8.
Now Saturday...almost done! When we stay at Ryan's parent's house, we sleep in the same room as Lilly. We pretty much knew that would mean little sleep for us. Turns out, she talks a lot in her sleep. We were exhausted when we got up at 6:30 that morning. When Lilly woke up, she could see us, so she just sat and yelled "dada!" at us until we got up. We had tentatively planned a long day of going to DI, going on a walk, and going to the temple. Sadly, the temple trip didn't happen because of how tired we were. I didn't want to be "that" person that everyone in the session can hear snoring. We did end up doing the other two activities. First was the walk at a nearby bird refuge. Basically it was a long walk through a dead-looking swamp. It was a perfectly sunny, cool day, so I didn't mind. Lilly fell asleep towards the end, too. After the walk, we hit up DI to look at desks for Ryan. Had we found one, we weren't really sure how we'd get it home, but I love DI, so I just wanted the excuse to go. We didn't end up finding a desk, but I found a few treasures. I think I'm going to have to start buying clothes at DI until I lose all my weight. I found a couple way cute shirts. And Kevin and Jan bought Lilly a piano. When they asked me if we wanted to take it home, I was like "nooooo! That can be a grandma and grandpa's house toy." haha! The rest of the day consisted of watching Lilly play (and dance) with the piano, watching Lilly go down the slide that they got for her a while back, Ryan beading, a delicious dinner, and watching the movie "Life of Pi." By the way, HATED the movie. I'm too sensitive when it comes to animal movies.
Okay, now onto Sunday. Another early morning. Lilly was up several times that night. She never sleeps well when she's at someone else's house. Church was at 9, so we quickly ate breakfast and headed out the door. For some reason, Sundays are always hard on Lilly. She was so fussy during Sacrament Meeting, Jan took her out and let her wander the halls. Then, during Sunday school, after puking all over daddy's iPad, I took her out for some wandering time. That plan backfired, since all she wanted to do was stick her fingers in sockets, and try to get into the bathrooms. If some unfortunate passerby came down the hall, Lilly would follow them like a little lost duck. If they happened to be a kid, she'd walk up to them and poke them in the eye. Kid you not, she poked at least 3 different kids in the eye. Haha! When I tried to hold her to keep her from being trampled by the crowds leaving classrooms, she lost it. She was screaming and mad, and didn't want to be held, but I insisted. I had enough! I told Ryan that Relief Society wasn't happening, but when I peaked into the room and saw Jan sitting there, waiting for me, I felt badly that I would be robbing her of a grandma moment and a chance to show off her granddaughter. I decided to tough it out and stay. Well, a miracle happened, and the second I sat down, Lilly fell asleep on me. She stayed asleep for all but the last 10 minutes, when she decided to wander around, poking the eyes of more babies. Hurray, we survived!!
Once home from church, we had an early lunch/dinner, and then everyone headed off for naps. I slept in the same room as Lilly, so she screamed for the first little bit when I wouldn't take her out of the crib. I think I got a good 2 hour nap, which was SO needed. Sadly, when I woke up, we had to leave. I didn't want to throw Lilly off her routine any more than I had to, and I didn't want Ryan to be out too late, since he had work. I love our visits with the Goodrichs. They just never seem long enough. It is nice that Lilly is recognizing Kevin and Jan, and getting excited to see them. I think Lilly scored tons of brownie points with how many times she snuggled Kevin and wanted him to pick her up. Now she just needs to learn how to say "grandpa," and he'll give her whatever she wants.
Ryan surprised me with flowers on Thursday
I always love it when Ryan gets Lilly dressed in the mornings, and I get surprised with them walking down the hall.
She looked super adorable on Wednesday
She kept looking up at me every time I would kiss her. This was at lunch...
On our way home from lunch. Ben was throwing a fit, which always scares Lilly, so when Lilly started screaming, Adele rubbed her head to make her feel better
She does this thing, where if there are pillows or blankets on the floor, she just lays down on them.
Saturday morning at Grandma and Grandpa's. She was wearing her new outfit, and wanted to show off.
Kevin and Jan got her this little play set. She LOVES going down and landing hard on her bum. When she wants to hint that she wants to go again, she leans up against the slide and slowly slides to the floor.
I'm SO glad we got this on video. Sometimes Lilly will see food on the floor, and instead of using her hands to pick it up to eat, she will just lay flat out on the floor and grab it with her mouth. Maybe she's learning this from the cats, I don't know, but it's hilarious.
Sunday afternoon. Exploring the flowers
This is what happens when you give her a granola bar in the car...
Sunday...She FINALLY wore shoes and kept them on. She even walked in them this time.
Reading stories with grandpa.
Wearing her new sun hat.
Saturday's walk.
This is Lilly playing with the new piano that Kevin and Jan bought for her. She likes to dance while playing, but gets distracted when she realizes that grandma's hand is keeping it from falling on her.
