Trying New Things

I'm reminded of a song from the kid's show "Daniel Tiger," (the kids I babysit like to watch it), where the mom is always trying to get the kids to try new foods, by singing "We gotta try new things cuz they might taste good!" Seriously, that dumb song is going to be stuck in my head for the next three days now. Great. Anyway, Lilly tried a few new things today, two of which were food related.

First was the true test to see if she was indeed a Goodrich. She saw daddy eating 40 Mile Stew leftovers for lunch, so we decided to share. She passed the test! She loved it! She'd say "mmmm" really loud after each bite, followed by a swig of mommy's Crystal Light...which, by the way, I'm starting to really love. It's not soda, though. :(

The second new thing was putting on her snow gear. If you live in Utah, you know today wasn't actually that cold. It was mostly overcast, but very windy, which made it feel cold. Ryan and I wanted to go on a long walk after Lilly's afternoon nap. There's a greenbelt path behind our complex, so we wanted to explore that. I was hesitant to put Lilly in her snow gear, thinking that it was a bit much, but after the walk, I'm glad we did. The wind was blowing right in her face, but the coat/hood was so big, it shielded most of it. Granted, she hated the thing when we first put it on her. She quickly warmed up to the idea (pun intended), and just sipped her juice the whole time.

Once home, I was bored, so I decided to make a mess by letting Lilly eat Spaghettios. Again, I'm jealous of the foods she gets to eat. I craved Spaghettios when I was pregnant with her. I stripped her down to her diaper, poured Spaghettios on her tray, and let her go at it. At first she didn't know what to do. Once she realized they were food, she chased them around the tray until she could either grab them or, her favorite, get them stuck on her finger, like a ring, and slip them into her mouth. By the end of it all, both of us were covered in red sauce. She thought it was fun to slap her hand into the sauce, and at one point, she started clapping while she had sauce all over her hands. All is well now. She's since been bathed, and the stray Spaghettio noodles have been cleaned up from the tub.

SO did not like the snow suit. It was so funny to watch her rolling around on the floor, trying crawl, but just tipping over because the suit was too big.

I'm pretty sure she would have gone on the walk if we'd let her.

We walked past a backyard that didn't have any fencing, yet held a bunch of chickens. This is them running away in terror.
