Nom, Nom, Nom

Yesterday while babysitting, it became very apparent to me that Lilly is an eating machine...much like her mommy (was). She's always been one to put things in her mouth, as every baby is, but she never showed any interest in actually eating toys and small objects. Yesterday changed all that. She crawled around, chasing Ben, who was eating a Chewy granola bar, picking up and eating all of the crumbs and chunks that he was leaving behind. At one point, she lunged at him and took 1/4 of the granola bar and popped it right into her mouth before I could stop her. She attempted to chew it, but I swooped it out before she could learn the joys of choking. 

Last Friday, when I was babysitting, she started to show signs of eating anything she found. She came walking up to me, looked at me, and I noticed that she had a bouncy ball in her mouth. It was the exact size as her tiny baby mouth, and she was likely to choke on it any second. I panicked and grabbed it out as quickly as I could. Where the heck did she get it?! Then, mere minutes later, she was playing with the springy doorstop, when I noticed she was chewing on something. Again, I ran over, pried open her mouth to find that the rubber stopper on the end of the door stop had fallen off and presented itself as food for Lilly. After yesterday, I do a walkthrough every hour or so, making sure nothing small enough to choke on has been left on the floor. It's exhausting.

On top of eating what she's not allowed to eat, she's been enjoying eating new, real foods. When Ben and Adele are sitting on their bar stools, eating "messy cheese" (shredded cheese), Lilly is like the family pet, eating any bits that fall on the floor. I also decided to let her nibble on a graham cracker, and boy did she love it. She ended up eating 3! Another new food item was from the other day, when we went out to eat at Sweet Tomatoes (thank you, Erin, for the vouchers!!) As we were leaving, I gave her a tiny ice cream cone to chew on. We had to go to the mall real fast after that, and by the time we left, she had eaten the whole thing. It's crazy to me that she's already eating normal foods and not choking on them. 

This was Lilly as she sat and ate the remnants of Ben's granola bar...Also, it's a perfect example of yeterday's blog post, where Ben said "WATCH ME!" about 10 million times!!
