1) RYAN!!!!!!! I miss his hugs, his kisses, holding his hands, snuggling, and laughing together. I left part of my heart in Utah and I won't feel whole until we're together again. Not just Ryan, but his family. The quirky Goodrich clan always promises a few laughs. Not to mention the loving parents that he has. When I'm with his family, I feel like I'm surrounded by love and I'm being shown what a real, happy family looks like. I'm going to miss that!
2) My family. I miss being able to just walk upstairs and say hi to my mom, or go out to dinner with Clay. Being a big girl is proving to be quite the lonely experience. I don't just miss the family either, I miss the traditions. I won't get to hand out candy for Halloween, I won't get to decorate the house for the holidays, and I won't get to go to the Festival of Trees. I'll have to start making my own traditions.
3) Home-cooked meals. For the next 9 months, I'm going to be living off of dining hall garbage, junk food, and whatever else I can scrounge up. There's nothing like mom's cooking!
4) TV!!! I opted out of any sort of television, in an effort to save a few bucks, and let me tell you, it is miserable. Coming home from a long day of class is only remedied by vegging out to some mindless television. I won't get to do that. What hurts the most is knowing that I won't be able to watch Notre Dame football games in the comfort of my own home. I'm going to be forced to be creative and sneak into a bar to watch a game. Hmmm, not sure how this will go. :P
5) The mountains. Until you leave Utah and live in the flattest part of the country, you will not know how much you really love having them in your life. Not only are they beautiful, but they always acted as a compass for me. Now as I look around for a hint at what direction I'm going, I'm completely lost without them. Good thing I have a Tom-Tom GPS unit!
6) The Church. One of my favorite things about Utah is the LDS culture. Some hate it, but I LOVE it. I always felt safer there, than any other place in the world. Being able to relate to the majority of the population was heavenly...no pun intended. Now, I'm one of few members and getting to church means driving to the nearest STATE! It takes me 30 minutes to get to church, and yes, I cross into Iowa, but it's all worth it. I get sad when I drive around and see so much violence and crime. Everyone has a beer in their hand and wholesome living seems foreign to them. :( I wouldn't give up my religion for anything!
7) The weather. The second I got out of the car when we arrived in Omaha, I was smacked in the face with extreme humidity. Hearing Ryan pant was quite hilarious! :P But anyway, I look forward to the day that I no longer break out in a dripping sweat while doing the simplest of tasks. And I'm SO not looking forward to the upcoming bitter winter. When I was here last, a normal day, a NORMAL day was on average -12 degrees. The worst day I had was -25 and -52 with windchill. No snow, just ice! What is the point of such cold climates? I'll never know! Angel will for sure be sleeping with me in the winter.
8) Bajio! I seemed to have developed an addiction for Bajio pork salads. If you've been to Costa Vida or Cafe Rio, you know what I'm talking about. I'm deeply saddened to report that Nebraska has NONE! What's up with that? I'm going to start my own Mexican food stand and make billions! The first thing I'm going to do when I get home is go straight to Bajio. :D
9) Movie theaters! This may seem like a lame thing to miss, but let me explain. At home, I'm never more than 10 minutes away from a movie theater. Here, I'm 30 minutes away. Once I finally get to the theater, I'm appalled by the sight. An officer is required to sit in on every movie, you'll get kicked out (maybe arrested) if you use your phone or talk to your neighbor, the back row is always full of couples making out (and maybe more...gross!), and did I mention that they don't have the awesome food courts!?! My favorite thing about Utah movie theaters is the fact that I can get dinner AND watch my movie. Not here!
10) And finally, the feeling of HOME. I was born and raised within the same 5 mile area and because of that, I fell in love with Utah. When I think of Utah, a warm nostalgia comforts me. I think of all of the things I've just mentioned and how I want my kids to grow up with a great appreciation for their home.
There's a reason I put him as #1. My best friend! Look at that handsome man! :P
