Baby Shower

I've wavered back and forth between being super excited about planning my own baby shower (along with my mom), and not wanting to have one at all. A few months ago, I flat-out told my mom that I just didn't want one. Every party I throw, I go all-out with my decorating and theming, but no one that I invite ever comes (Ryan's family, not included). It kind of makes you feel like a zero when you send out 30 invites, and not a single one of them shows up. We put so much money, time, and stress into parties that just fizzle. So, I told my mom that I'd rather just save that money, and put it straight toward the babies. Besides, I was feeling a bit tired, and wasn't really up to the amount of time and stress that it takes to throw a Pinterest party. But, my mom being the amazing woman she is, decided to throw one anyway. She asked me to trust her and give 100% control and just show up.

This past weekend she threw me a cute pink and blue baby shower with a subtle Star Wars theme. Even though I told her I'd give her all control, I didn't want her taking it on all by herself, especially since she just had surgery. So, I demanded she delegate tasks....any task that could be done in bed or on the couch. (hehe) And, surprisingly, more than just family showed up!! I had some old coworkers, some new and old ward members, and the family I babysat for come! I was really nice to get out of bed, pretty myself up a little, and get to chat with old friends. Not only did they spoil me, they definitely spoiled the babies!

We were short on clothes for the babes, but now, I think they're going to be well-dressed for the first year. And, I have to say, Jack and Susan probably surprised me the most with their gift. Never in my life has Jack given me a birthday or a Christmas present of any sort, despite always getting spoiled by me. It's fine with me, because I don't give to receive, I just like to spoil him. So, the fact that he brought a present, was enough to make me want to cry. When I saw what it was, I nearly did... He and Susan bought us one of the two car seats that we needed!! I'd say he totally redeemed himself! And, between all of the other generous donations and gift cards, we were able to completely pay for the second. So, I went from avoiding a baby shower, to having one and being shown how much support and love really do surround us.

Lilly helped make (eat) the cookies

Getting to do the sprinkles

Can you guess which toddler ate the missing donut?

You can't see it very well, because we forgot to turn it on, but there's a mini lightsaber on the bottom tier

We were aiming for "bum" buns, but I guess hair buns work, too.

I wanted these Willow Tree figurines so badly!

The napkin diapers were one of my in-bed tasks.

So were the bow bundles

I had fun putting these together.

This was my favorite thing that my mom came up with. (Even Lilly signed one) I can't wait to hang it when we put the nursery together....in 10 years

It wasn't until I saw this picture, that I realized how large and round I am. I don't think my belly could get much bigger, but apparently it's supposed to double in size

Emma (Ryan's old coworker, and the woman that I babysat for last year) brought Ryan a gift. I'll die the first time the twins wear these. Oh, and Ryan has one in his size, too!

If you look closely, I tried to be baby-shower appropriate, and wore mustache earrings.

Lilly would gasp and say "oh my dosh" when I opened gifts.

From Grandma Griffin, all the way in Washington. I LOVED the matching sock puppet jammies. I had no clue that grandma had sent a gift, because my mom hid it when it came in the mail. When she handed me the 30 lb package full of baby clothes, I about died. Thank you, grandma! We love you!!

I made these and framed them for the party, but when we finally have a nursery, they'll hang in there

Jack got us the blue one because he insists that he is going to take my son under his wing.

Both car seats bought! Woo!!
