Cake Poppin'

One of my Christmas presents to myself was a cake pop maker. I hadn't ever used one, but I figured $10 was a good price to pay to start a new hobby. I wasn't sure if I was going to get what I paid for, and end up with a piece of junk. I was overjoyed when they turned out perfectly. The machine is a piece of cake to use (pun intended), and I got more than 50 cake balls from less than one box of cake. The hard part was in the decorating. That's another story. Working with baker's chocolate is currently the bane of my existence. I'm not entirely happy with how the finished product turned out, but I think they're cute for a first timer. I'll just have to get better with practice.

A few tips: 1) don't overfill the slots, otherwise you have to cut the cake away from the side, and it's a huge pain and mess. 2) pour the cake mix into a squeeze bottle for distributing, otherwise it takes too much time to use a spoon, and the cake balls start to puff and cook before I'm ready. Each batch only takes like a minute to cook. This thing rocks!!

Tip #3, freeze the balls for 15 minutes, otherwise they're too soft when dipping in chocolate, and the balls slide down the stick. I had to learn all these lessons the hard way!!

Tip #4, use wax paper!! Not only does it make clean up a breeze, once the chocolate is on the ball, it's gonna stick to everything it touches.

Susan's shower is pink themed. And apparently I'm not the best at drizzling chocolate
