Coincidence?

"Coincidence? I think NOT!" Sorry, the title of this post reminded me of The Incredibles. Moving on...Last night while I was trying to figure out where to put my new, beautiful platter, I accidentally broke the "Goodrich" plate that was on the shelf above the sink. Actually, I got lucky. The "Goodrich" plate, the platter, AND the hand & footprint plate fell off the shelf and into the sink. Only the one plate broke. Phew! I wasn't too bummed. Really I was excited because it meant that I'd "have" to make another one. The coincidence is that today was $3 studio fee day, instead of $10, and my mom had a bunch of ornaments to paint. Perfect! A spontaneous date was made and I spent all day thinking about what my new plate would look like

If you couldn't tell, I'm currently on a black and white damask addiction right now. After how perfectly my platter turned out, I thought it would be fun to make the new plate with damask, and write "Goodrich" in my favorite font and Tiffany blue, to fit in with my new mixer. Everything in the kitchen has to match, you know?! My mom thinks I'm crazy...maybe I am. I decided to take Lilly with me so that Ryan could have a few hours off at home. He was only so happy to oblige.

Good thing I wasn't attempting my platter tonight. I just didn't have the same skill that I did last week. My hands were shaky and they started to get sore and crampy just after the first few minutes of decorating. As always, I had to do more than I intended to do. I went in, telling myself I was only going to do a plate, but ended up talking myself into making an ornament with Lilly's handprint. What?! A baby with hands and feet as cute as hers, needs to be taken advantage of. I'm totally a sentimental person, so I love all this custom stuff I'm making. Here's to hoping they turn out. My shaky hand made the font turn out kind of iffy, so we'll see. Either way, I had fun. Color Me Mine is my new happy place.

This is the plate that broke.
This is the replacement. Ignore any of the pink marker. It burns off completely in the kiln, so you won't see any of it.
I've become such a sentimental person lately. My kitchen is filling up with so many things that I love. I have the mixer that Ryan got me for my birthday, the platter, the plate with Lilly's hand & foot prints, the Notre Dame soap dispenser from our trip to South Bend, and a pot holder that my dad got me in Peru,  when picking Jack up from his mission.
I figured this was safer than putting it on the shelf.

My solution to the plates falling off the shelf? My scrapbooking glue dots. Anyone that's used these before knows that they're SUPER sticky and will hold anything. In the words of Ryan, in his Randy Savage voice, "these plates are going NOWHERE!"
