So the night before last, I got about 2 1/2 hours of sleep. Mostly due to a mind that wouldn't shut off. Normally I would be able to deal with it, but it just so happened that we were going to the midnight showing of The Hobbit last night. I hoped I would be able to nap throughout the day with Lilly, but the upstairs demon child that likes to jump instead of walk, kept waking us up. No naps were had! We dropped Lilly off at my mom's around 8:30 and headed off to meet up with all of Ryan's family. We got to the theater a bit early (it was actually the theater right next to our old house), so we went over to Five Guys and got some fries to nibble on. By "some" fries, I really mean the world's biggest bag of fries. Crossing that one off my food bucket list. We still had about 15 minutes before everyone was supposed to show up, so we sat in the car and quoted movies. We both broke out singing/quoting the "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt" scene from Rocket Man. Yeah, we're a buncha nerds.
When family showed up, we gathered in IHOP for some snacks. Ryan ordered a plate of sausage...of course...but I was too full from the fries to order anything. I really wish I had gotten some pancakes, just so that I could eat some blueberry syrup. Finally we got to go into the theater. I have never been surrounded by so many dressed up fans. Some of them were quite awkward. By that time, I was starting to feel the effects of the lack of sleep. I somehow managed to survive the movie, which was pretty good, coming from someone who never read the book. Once it was over, though, I just wanted to run home. We had to stop and get Lilly from my mom's, so we ended up getting home at 4. Once in bed, Ryan and I both only made one remark each. From Ryan, "I think going to a midnight showing is something I can only handle maybe once a year," and from me, "that was the worst decision I've ever made!" The second I laid my head down on my pillow, LITERALLY the second, the baby monitor flicked on. Lilly was up. Listening to Ryan's advice, I just turned it off and hoped that she'd go back to sleep. She did, but not for long. She ended up getting up for good at 6:30. I almost broke down crying when I realized I'd only gotten 2 hours of sleep. I couldn't open my eyes.
No more sleep was had, as we were going to Ryan's brother's graduation from Weber. Again, I'm surprised we survived. Lilly was so perfect, as always, which made it easier. As the day went on, we both started to crash. We had dinner with the family at Brick Oven and then made the painfully slow drive home. It was raining and rush hour. Stopped traffic basically the whole way home. Ryan had the hardest time staying awake. Now that we're home, Lilly is being put to bed, and once she's down, we're heading to bed too. I can't remember the last time I felt this tired. I can honestly say that a midnight showing is NEVER going to happen for us again. Well, maybe not for me.
Orange soda and fry sauce, my two favorite things.
At The Hobbit
This is the scene from Rocket Man that Ryan and I reenacted in the car.
Yay Christian!!
Every time I looked at her, she would just start to laugh.
