Nightmarish Day

The title of this post is actually kind of a lie. You can only have nightmares if you sleep, and I certainly didn't do any of that last night! One of the concerns that I expressed to Ryan before coming out, was that I was worried about how the time change would affect Lilly. We only just dealt with the daylight savings time change, and now we would be going back another hour. Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's been a freakin' nightmare!! I kept her up late Saturday night, hoping she'd sleep in a little later. I knew it wouldn't do anything, since she's never been the type of baby whose internal clock changes when you adjust when she goes to bed. I had hoped, but I was wrong. Here's how the first night went....

As I mentioned in the last post, our room is freezing. The rest of the house is actually quite hot, but our room just doesn't get any heat. I filled Lilly's crib with fluffy blankets, hoping to shield her from the chill, but it didn't work. I put her to bed at around 8, went to bed myself at 9, and not 10 minutes after laying my head down and thinking to myself "oh my goodness, this is heavenly!," she woke up screaming. I gave her a minute or two to see if she would fall back asleep, but she didn't. When I picked her up to comfort her, she was cold to the touch. I decided to just suck it up and bring her to bed with me. I got her down into the warm blankets and snuggled her. To be honest, it was lovely. I so love cuddling with my Lilly. We dozed off, and another 10 minutes later, the people upstairs must have dropped something, because it startled us both awake. The night continued in that fashion. We woke up a few times an hour. Lilly would start crying, so I would sing to her and rub her back until she fell asleep again. One of the times that I woke up, she had her feet propped up on my head. I swiveled her back into her spot, but she proceeded to move right back and plop her feet back where they were. Apparently she likes sleeping with her feet propped. At 4 am, she woke up for good. My dad's bed frame is really squeaky, so she jumped up and down on my pillow (mostly my head) for a while, holding onto the frame, trying to make it squeak. That's when I gave up and just took her out into the living room. I maybe got about an hour of combined sleep. I literally wanted to cry from how painfully tired I was. Waking up at 3 am the day before, a LONG day of traveling, and a night with 10 minute intervals of sleep...ugh, NOT something I can do.

We somehow managed to make it through the day. We went to mass with my dad at 10:30. We got there a little early, so we got to join in on my favorite part of Catholic church...coffee and donuts!! Just donuts for us. Lilly's sugar high lasted all through church. I spent most of my time having to chase her around and pick her up when she flung herself down in a fit of dramatics. We were sitting in an area for parents with small, noisy children, so she had lots of other kids to play with. One in particular was so adorable. There was a family from Africa there. They had a 2 year old who was just in love with Lilly. At one point, they walked up to each other, slowly reached out and hugged each other. They embraced for a good 10 seconds, and managed to have all of the other parents laughing and going "awwww". It actually brought tears to my eyes, it was so cute. But, suffice it to say, I was even more exhausted after church. I made my dad go out and buy a space heater before we went home, because there was NO way I was going to have a repeat of last night.

Lilly didn't really nap throughout the day. I think she's having a hard time with waking up and not knowing where she is. Oh, and she's sick. I think she has a cold AND is teething. She has the diaper rash from hell, and a runny nose. But she also has a couch and a slight fever. My dad seems to have a cold too, so I'm thinking he gave it to her. Poor thing! So, instead of napping, we spent the afternoon packing and making dinner. I made Cafe Rio pork and sweet rice for dinner. My dad kept saying "this is GOOD! Like REALLY good!" Good thing, because we have a ton leftover. Lilly went to bed at 6:30 and did much better. She only woke up once or twice, but fell back asleep quickly. Thank goodness! We "slept in" until 5. I'm trying my best to keep her hydrated and medicated. But I'm having a hard time packing, since she's super snuggly. Thank goodness my dad doesn't have a ton of stuff, otherwise we might be in trouble.

Welp, better get back to packing. Lilly is napping (FINALLY), but I know she'll wake up soon. Sure wish I was napping, too........
I asked her if she wanted some oatmeal, and she ran over to her highchair all excited. But the second I started to feed her, she threw a fit. THAT'S how tired she was...
She's been helping me pack. Granted, she's attempted to sneak her shoes, blocks, and even bear-bear into the box when I wasn't looking.
