Due to my recent lack of writing, I thought it wise to inform you all that I
am still alive..... and doing well!! I had a sudden stroke of passion, or call it craziness, in which I had the urge to start up my own business. "She's a business woman too," you ask, well, sorta. I have always had a passion for crafts; from scrapbooking, and knitting, to photography, and baking. Well, I decided to put my "talents" to good use. Not to mention I've got this nifty Cricut scrapbooking machine that my in-laws got me for Christmas...I've started a web-based company called "Nanny's Notes." Nanny has been my nickname my entire life, and anyone close to me calls me this quite frequently. Anyhoo, I didn't want to jump into anything too big, so I'm going to be making greeting cards. Any occasion that you can think to give a card, I'm your gal! I've spent most of my time trying to make a professional-looking website, and only today did I have a chance to sit down and actually make a few cards. I'm not as good as I would have hoped, but I'm definitely getting better. (oops, I probably shouldn't have said that to potential customers, haha!) I'm hoping to get a good inventory of cards built up, so I have some stock to work with. The only thing I'm having an issue with is price. It took me ALL day to make 8 custom cards. And yes, this could be that I was brain storming and thinking about possible designs, but they are really time-consuming. And the ones that I go all out on, well, those are pretty dang expensive too. Is it too much to ask for $3-5 a card, plus shipping? I'm also offering any custom orders, and we all know that can cost a pretty penny. Let me know what you think. I could really use any feedback. :D

And last, but not least, birthday cards! This is my favorite card that I made today. Many more like this to come, I'm sure.
$3 is low for the quality I'm seeing. $5 is a good bottom. You may not sell as many, but you will make up for it in the additional income. OR you might look at having a line of "low price" cards as well as the super stuff.
ReplyDeleteAlso, what about custom "sentiments" in the cards. Some with some without. Put that writer husband to work coming up with sayings.
Finally, how about cards for geeks? Geeks need to express themselves too.
Finally (I lied, there is more) I have a great deal of experience setting up the shopping cart at http://demo.oscommerce.com/ . It works like a charm and I've written some support software as well. Lets you do the whole sale (including payment) without having to be involved.
