Quite an interesting experience. As I scanned the menu, I pulled out a few very disgusting sounding rolls. 1) The hot dog roll 2)SPAM roll and 3)Tuna salad roll. Weird! We decided to make the night a bit more entertaining (how it always is with my brothers) and pulled straws to see who would eat the gross fish egg rolls and random sea creature rolls. Well actually they weren't straws, they were a bunch of broken chopsticks. The first draw was for a sea urchin roe roll. What, to me, looked like poop colored jello on rice. haha! Sorry for the image. Brian lost that round, but talked Clay and Jack into trying some too. GROSS! Next, I was talked into eating a sushimi roll with a large purply colored clam on top. I won't lie, it was pretty tasty. 2 hours and 2 dozen rolls later, we were back at Brian's apartment for a Wii tournament.
Unfortunately, the killer roll isn't pictured...because I already ate it!!
It didn't take long for me to notice the dull aching pain starting in my chest. I brushed it off as a typical Natalie ache and continued playing. The pain started to get worse and worse, and it wasn't until I found that I couldn't sit, or move for that matter, that something was wrong. I kept this to myself until I was visibly shaken. My chest was tight, PAINFUL, and my breathing was impossible. The boys decided to take me to the ER. Let me paint the funniest picture ever....A drunken Clay (and I mean DRUNK) wheeling his sister up to the hospital when he crashes the wheelchair into the curb, almost causing me to fall out. Then, as I decided to walk the rest of the way, he runs up behind me and starts bashing my legs with the wheelchair in order to make me sit. haha! It wasn't until I yelled "I'm not sitting in the dang wheelchair" that he stopped, only to be greeted by a nurse saying "You HAVE to sit in the wheelchair." DANG!
Most of the night was spent in the ER and the amazing doctors and nurses were able to save my life...literally. It seems I have developed an allergy to shell fish (most likely during my pregnancy) and this allergy almost killed me. That one little surf clam was enough to swell my lungs to the point of shutting down. Does Anaphylactic Shock mean anything to you? I'm just lucky that I have an amazing family that was willing to drop everything to help me.
That wasn't necessarily the way I wanted to end my trip, but my trip was so amazing, not even this near death experience could have ruined it. Some highlights from the ER stick out:
*Walking in with Jack taking pictures of me saying "Don't worry Natalie, I'm taking pictures so you can Facebook this."
*Clay crashing me into the curb
*Clay and Jack volunteering to be the two in my room, but Clay being told he couldn't go back due to the extreme drunkenness.
*Jack walking back to the waiting room and saying "She's dead." (hahaha! I find this so funny because it's SO Jack.)
*Jack sitting with me, spitting out movie quotes. My favorite from Dumb and Dumber. As he walked out of the room and said "Don't you go dying on me!"
*Finally getting dishcharged and walking out into the waiting room to find Clay sprawled out on the couch, asleep. I'm not even kidding when I say that Brain literally slapped Clay in the face 5 times and he still wouldn't wake up.
